What is DHS?
The Royal Male Voice Choir Die
Haghe Sanghers was founded at march 12, 1917. The Choir consists of approximately 60
members. Her Majesty Queen Beatrix is the Patroness of the Choir. Drs. W.J. Deetman, former Mayor
of The Hague, is the Honourary Chairman.
Goals
The most important goal of the Choir is practising and promoting male choir singing both
within and outside the Netherlands. Die Haghe Sanghers do not restrict themselves
to classical music; the choir also likes to challenge itself by performing compositions of
current composers. With this Die Haghe Sanghers still function as a role model for
male choir repertoire. The choir continuesly seeks for renewing elements.
The unique sound of DHS
The choir sings both a-capella as accompanied by instruments. What really is outstanding
is the specific sound and singing technique of the Choir. Many composers from from The
Netherlands and abroad have had themselves be inspired by this. They have written special
compositions for the Choir.
Every year the Choir has numerous performances. The choir does also perform on invitation
for congresses or cultural events. Furthermore the choir has concert tours abroad aswell.
Highlights of the concert tours were trips to the former Soviet Union, Rome, Bulgaria and
Tsjecho-Slovakia.
The regular rehearse takes place at monday evening. Furthermore, the own choir school
takes care of a good direction of the singers concerning the use of their voice and
theoretical knowledge.
